I thought we had got rid of the constant moaning about they won't let me fly my flag or everyone is a racist when the Boris left some years back.
But no. It appears we have just got started.
If the election in Gorton and Denton is anything to go by, we are in for a few more years of this nonsense.
Actually, we should be celebrating the fact that a working class person from the Green Party, like Hannah Spencer has won the by-election and came in ahead of someone who was just using the election to further his career.
I mean, a female ex-plumber turned politician from a smaller party won the seat? How amazing is that. I thought that would be a good thing?
Isn’t that what we want instead of career politicians? Isn't that what makes democracy so great -where the common folk can have their say in how their neighbourhood is run.
Instead, we have had 24 hours of the familiar calls about how the election ‘wasn’t fair’ and ‘sectarianism’.
It is all just noise now isn’t it?
I call it ‘noise’ as that is what it has become. When you reach a certain stage in your life, people arguing becomes ‘background noise’.
I wake up and I turn the pages of the news sites and some bloke is moaning about awful his life is because some poorer person, got something for free. Even worse are those who use the 'woke' in every sentence.
On the flip side a bloke puts a flag up in the ‘wrong spot’ and we go mental. Hoist the flag up and dress up in red and white. I welcome it. I want to see more of it. Not everything need be a drama.
Anyone making it past passport control and then happens to pick up a paper or watch the news will think we are either a bunch of raging racists or being taken over by hoards of foreign folk.
The problem with all this ‘noise’ is that it detracts from the everyday problems that need to be tackled. There are genuine issues that matter to people.
It is almost as if this ‘noise’ drowns out common sense.
Some of us, as I know I am not alone here, have come to the conclusion that we are all now living parallel lives. There are the people who moan constantly about almost everything and want to blame someone and then there are those who quietly get on with it in a dignified way and are striving to make a change for the better. Even if it is in a small way.
I know where most of us stand.
