Lancashire’s “Secret Fiancé” says wedding planning is already “steaming ahead”, and he’s even eyeing up a possible DJ set from Capital Breakfast host Jordan North for the big day.

Darren Spencer was unmasked on Friday as Capital Breakfast’s mysterious “Secret Fiancé” after proposing live on air to partner Sophie, from Poulton-le-Fylde, with the help of her favourite singer Tom Grennan and presenters Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby.

Catching up with presenter Will Manning on Monday’s show, Darren said the couple had spent the weekend “keeping it low-key” with his son and close family as the news sank in.

He admitted, though, that plans for the wedding itself are moving quickly, telling listeners: “Let’s just say things are steaming ahead.”

Asked if that meant venues were already being lined up, he replied: “Yes – not like I’ve had much input. But Sophie has now taken control of the reins.

"Sophie normally leads a lot of our logistics and planning. But she’s certainly looking at a few venues and more to be confirmed.”

Will joked that Jordan, Chris and Sian would all be angling for invites, and suggested Darren should “get Jordan on the decks and get a free DJ set out of him if you can”, with Chris Stark also tipped to join in behind the decks.

Darren laughed and said that he was open to the idea, teasing that the Capital team could yet find themselves on the wedding guest list as the couple continue planning their big day after the surprise on-air proposal that first captured listeners’ hearts.

You can listen to Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby weekdays from 6am to 10am across the UK on air and on Global Player, the official Capital app.
