A suspected far-right extremist has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of possessing a pistol.

Szymon Zgierski, 21, from Morecambe, Lancashire, faces a charge of possession of a firearm.

It was alleged in court that officers discovered an imitation firearm, deemed readily convertible, during a search of his room.

The court also heard that police found items linked to far-right and neo-Nazi groups, including flags.

At a preliminary hearing on Friday, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the case would continue at Preston Crown Court.

She scheduled a plea hearing for May 15 and a provisional trial date from July 20.

Mr Zgierski was remanded into custody.
