A new banking hub is coming to a Lancashire town, with the announcement coming as a major bank revealed it is closing its branch there.
LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, has announced that Skelmersdale will be home to the new facility, which will be delivered by Cash Access UK.
The decision follows the announced closure of the town’s branch of Halifax and forms part of a wider commitment to protect access to cash.
The hub will offer counter services for cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments, alongside private spaces where customers can meet with community bankers from their own bank for more complex or confidential matters.
These banks will operate on a rotating schedule, ensuring different bank representatives are available on set days.
Dr Chris Ashton, Chief Commercial Officer, LINK, said: "While more people are choosing to bank and pay for things digitally, we know that many people still rely on and choose to use cash.
"That’s why we’re delighted to recommend the new hub in Skelmersdale.
"There are over 214 hubs open across the country and when it opens, the Skelmersdale banking hub will be vital for the local community and high street."
