The New Inn in Skipton Old Road, Foulridge, was put up for sale by its previous owners, Thwaites, in April 2024.
From when it was first put on the market to July 2025, there was limited interest, and no acceptable offers were made.
Prior to approval, a planning officer’s report outlined that replacement facilities were available for the community via public transport links, and there was no need or demand for the facility to remain in use.
This was supported in the planning documents, which said that the only interest that agents had received was related to the redevelopment of the site, with no interest in continuing its current use.
Additionally, the Thwaites-owned Hare and Hounds pub, which is located 150m away from the New Inn, underwent significant refurbishment in the summer.
The planning officer's report said: “It is also relevant to note that the Hare and Hounds public house has recently benefited from significant refurbishment works and provides a high-quality food and drink offering.
“In this context, it is evident that the New Inn is no longer required to serve the local area, and its closure and lack of subsequent interest demonstrate that the use is no longer needed.”
Plans are to convert the pub into a four-bedroom house, which will include a number of ‘minor external alterations to facilitate the use’.

They will include the partial demolition of an 'unsympathetic flat roof extension' to the pub's rear and alterations to the roof of the west-facing extension to form a first-floor balcony.
Also proposed is the rebuilding of the porch and minor changes to the windows.
Pendle Borough Council granted full approval, as long as the materials are appropriate to the surrounding area, no development takes place until a construction method statement has been submitted, and that parking spaces associated with the development are provided and kept free from obstruction.
