Police said the body discovered by a member of the public was that of man who had gone missing from a prison.
Officers had been investigating a report of a man missing from Haverigg Prison in Cumbria.
A police spokesperson said: “The body was found at 2.05pm on Thurdsay, January 22, at Holme Knott, Sedbergh, after a call from a member of the public.
“The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
“The family of John Hosker, reported missing on January 8, have been informed.
“It followed a call from a member of the public.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a formal identification is yet to take place.”
