Bargain flights to top ski destinations are taking off from Manchester Airport.

The winter ski season has started and, for winter sports fans in the North West, January offers an ideal opportunity for a holiday.

Resorts are quieter than the Christmas peak, but skiing conditions remain ideal, with fresh snow and colder temperatures preserving the pistes.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: "These factors in combination mean it’s a great time of year for beginners who benefit from more space and less pressure on the slopes, as well as serious skiers who can rely on good snow quality."

As well as direct routes to popular Alpine and Pyrenean resorts, the airport’s network includes less traditional options such as the Dolomites, the Carpathians, and even Ontario, Canada.

And with a wide choice of direct ski flights available, getting there has never been easier or more affordable.

Current deals include Ryanair flights to Barcelona from February 9 to 15 for just £29 per person.

While not an obvious ski destination, Barcelona is only a couple of hours’ drive from the eastern Pyrenees, which offers some of Europe’s best beginner slopes.

Those heading to the Alps can fly to Grenoble with Ryanair from January 30 to February 6 for £32 per person.

The airport said: "Some of the best French and Swiss ski resorts are within easy reach from Grenoble, including Alpe d'Huez and Chamonix."

For Italian ski fans, Turin flights are available from February 7 to 14 for just £34 per person.

The city, which hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, offers direct access to the Vialattea (‘Milky Way’) ski region, a cluster of resorts catering to all abilities.

New for this winter, easyJet is offering flights to Scandinavian Mountains Airport from February 7 to 14 for £36 per person.

The airport added: "A new addition to Manchester Airport’s route network this winter, the Scandinavian Mountains Airport in northern Sweden is close to Sälen and Trysil, two of the region’s best resorts."

For those looking for something different, Ryanair is offering flights to Plovdiv in Bulgaria from February 2 to 7 for £42 per person.

The nearby Rhodope Mountains feature resorts like Pamporovo and Chepelare, ideal for both beginners and anyone seeking a new experience.
