This photo from May 1974 was taken to illustrate a Lancashire Evening Telegraph story about how new firms were looking to move to East Lancashire.
Under the headline 'It’s boom time for busy Accrington', the photo shows the expanding industrial estate at Huncoat.
The estate had recently welcomed three new firms and a 25,000 square foot unit was still available for rent with further land allocated for the estate’s expansion.
The report said that scores of new businesses had been set up in Hyndburn with firms taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the UK joining the Common Market.
The manager of Accrington’s employment exchange said that both engineering and textiles were in need of skilled workers.
