Two fundraising campaigns have been launched to honour a Blackburn man who died in a horror crash.

The campaigns are in memory of 54-year-old Masrob Ali, a taxi driver and father of four who was killed in a crash in Bolton in the early hours of Sunday, January 11.

A GoFundMe page organised by Sharmin Mimi has raised more than £9,300 towards a £10,000 target.

The money raised will go towards a masjid and water wells in his name.

Sharmin said: "We are heartbroken to share the devastating news of the passing of our beloved uncle, Masrob Ali, a loving husband, father, brother and uncle.

"Our uncle sadly passed away following a tragic car accident while he was working as a taxi driver.

"He was a man of immense kindness known for his gentle nature, and he was always very hardworking.

"Even in his final moments, he was doing what he always did, working hard to serve others.

"To honour his beautiful legacy and the selflessness he lived by, we are raising funds to put towards a masjid and water wells in his name."

A separate fundraiser was launched on LaunchGood by charity Blackburn UK Trust, which has so far raised £15,600.

The money will go towards funeral and burial costs and also to "support his wife and children with everyday living expenses and give the family time to grieve without financial pressure."

The LaunchGood page reads: "He was described by those who knew him as 'the gentlest soul' — always putting others first and showing compassion to everyone he met.

"Masrob never asked for help. He spent his life caring for others, and now his family needs us.

"Your donation will help cover funeral and burial costs.

"Ensure Masrob’s legacy lives on through the security and dignity of his loved ones.

"No contribution is too small  - every gift brings comfort and relief to a family devastated by loss."

A spokesperson for Blackburn UK Trust said: "We wanted to create a way for the community to come together and assist the family with immediate and ongoing financial needs, including funeral costs and essential household support at a time of immense shock and grief.

"Although we did not know Masrob Ali personally, as a local charity deeply rooted in the community, we felt it was important to step forward and help a family in need.

"Our aim is simply to ease some of the financial burden so his loved ones can focus on grieving and healing without added hardship.

"Our hearts go out to the family, and they remain in our duas and prayers."

Funeral prayers were held at Masjid-e-Sajedeen in Plane Street on Wednesday, January 14. Hundreds turned out to pay tribute to Mr Ali.

Mr Ali died when his Citroen C4 Picasso was in a crash with a Seat Leon in Wigan Road, Bolton, at 12.44am on Sunday, January 11.

Five people, including four of Mr Ali's passengers, were injured in the crash, with one, a 29-year-old woman, suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old woman and a man, 30, suffered serious injuries, and a 29-year-old man has minor injuries.

An 18-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Seat, remains in hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

In Bolton, the three men in the Seat who died - Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, 19, Farhan Patel, 18 and Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, 18 - were buried on Tuesday.
