A new direct rail service from London Euston to Stirling in Scotland will be launched in 2026 with a stop in Lancashire.
The rail industry is set to see a few changes across the UK this year, with a list of 10 being highlighted as the most exciting by The Telegraph.
The newspaper said: “From a bold new “Metro” network in the valleys of South Wales to fresh rail links between London and Stirling and Falmouth and Newquay, there are plenty of exciting developments for fans of UK rail travel to look forward to over the coming year.
“In addition to new routes nationwide, the Caledonian Sleeper will for the first time be picking up passengers in Birmingham for its nightly journeys north from London, and specialist operators will be offering fresh takes on established routes – such as the spectacularly scenic West Highland line in Scotland and the delightfully quaint lines of Mid Wales.
“Add to that the prospect of departures linking Newcastle and Brighton and London and Cleethorpes, and there really may be something to raise a glass of (Krug) champagne to on a series of enhanced journeys on the luxurious Northern Belle. Thankfully, not all rail projects in the UK carry the curse of HS2 – here are 10 to celebrate.”
Lumo’s new London to Stirling train service to include stop at Preston
Open access operator Lumo, which has reportedly been dubbed the “Ryanair of the Rails”, is launching a new route which will mean passengers don’t need to switch trains in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
This new service will stop in Preston and run four times a day.
Lumo’s new route, which features in The Telegraph’s list of 10 exciting new train journeys coming to the UK this year, is expected to start in spring.
It will stop at Milton Keynes Central, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert.
The Telegraph said: “The service will be the first to provide a direct train link to London for Whifflet, Greenfaulds, and Larbert.”

Back in summer, transport giant FirstGroup said it secured a deal with rolling stock company Eversholt Rail in relation to the new route which will include the use of five trains.
Ticket prices for this journey are expected to be around £30 and £40 for a one-way trip. You can find out more about the service at the Lumo website (a link to which can be found above).
