A man made his first Crown Court appearance following an alleged assault in Church.

Marcus Warburton, 36, of Regent Street, Haslingden, was charged with Section 18 wounding with intent after a man was found collapsed inside a property in Bank Street.

The charge alleges that Warburton assaulted Barry Whelan on November 9.

Warburton appeared in the dock at Burnley Crown Court on Tuesday (December 16) and entered a not guilty plea to the single charge.

He was bailed ahead of a further case management hearing on March 10.

A pre-trial review was scheduled for October 5, and a four-day trial was scheduled for November 30.
