Filming began this week on a new crime drama set in Nelson and Lancashire.
'No Comment' (working title) is described as a 'gritty and emotionally charged' new short film about youth exploitation.
The film is being produced by Blackburn filmmakaer Aeman Ali Afzal, founder of This Is TAE, who has teamed with The Prosper Partnership and Ali Afzal.
The film features Nohail Mohammed, known for his role as Riz Nawaz in Channel 4’s award-winning drama Ackley Bridge.
He is joined by rising actress Leah Baskaran and two local college students, Shaan Shah and Abu Bakr Saghir, who make their screen debuts.
After releasing the casting call, the production said they were not prepared to be inundated with submissions from so many performers across Lancashire.
No Comment is set on the streets, back alleys, takeaways, estates and community spaces across Lancashire.
Aeman said he was delighted to be filming in the county.
He said: “Lancashire has stories the world hasn’t heard yet.
“No Comment digs deep into what young people here actually face, the temptations, the traps, the pressures.
"It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s happening right now. We’re telling a story that belongs to this community.”
The creative team is hoping the project will be a 'launchpad' for a future feature film or dramatic series rooted in grassroots Lancashire communities like Nelson, Burnley and Blackburn.
Ali Afzal added: “This is bigger than one film. We’re building momentum for something much larger.
"Lancashire’s culture, struggles and spirit deserve a cinematic universe of their own, and No Comment is the first spark.”
Filming continues this week across multiple Lancashire locations.
