Hyndburn Council is planning on taking formal action after a static caravan appeared on public land by a road.

Joined with a tourer caravan, the two vehicles appeared at the roundabout connection of Market Street and Blackburn Road, in Church.

Councillor Steven Smithson, who represents St Andrew’s Ward, posted an update on Facebook stating he and Cllr Loraine Cox had visited the site and discussed the matter with the occupier.

He said: “Many local residents have reported the static caravan and tourer near Church roundabout to both me and Cllr Loraine Cox.

“We have both reported this to Hyndburn Council, and the council has visited the site and discussed the matter with the occupier of the land.

“The council understands that this is a breach of planning control. Unfortunately, the occupier has partly placed the caravan on council land, and the council will be taking formal action requesting them to vacate the land.

“We will continue to work closely with the council on this issue.”

Cllr Cox has confirmed that the situation remains under investigation and discussions are ongoing to determine the land ownership and whether enforcement action is required.

She said: “The situation regarding the caravan remains under investigation.

"Negotiations and discussions are ongoing to determine land ownership and to assess whether further enforcement action is required or appropriate at this stage.

“Until these discussions have concluded and the individuals concerned have been updated, it would not be appropriate to provide any further specific details.”

She also confirmed that the planning department is continuing to review the legalities of the site.
