A pub in Lancashire has been named one of the UK’s top 30 for an autumn escape with great food by The Guardian.
The newspaper said: “From Cornwall to the Highlands, here’s our pick of new or recently refurbished inns with cosy rooms, enticing menus and country walks from the door”.
The New Inn in Yealand Conyers features in the list and is praised for the “classy comfort food” it serves and the “beamed dining room” where you can cosy up next to the log burner.

The Guardian said: “Young couple Ben and Lauren Sandiford took on the running of this seven-bedroom village inn in April. Ben brought his chef experience to the kitchen, which now turns out classy comfort food (shepherd’s pie with mash and ewe’s cheese crumb; beef and ale suet pudding) to be eaten in the beamed dining room beside the log burner.
“The bar is filled with locals sipping on beers including Lancaster Blonde and Ruskin’s Best Bitter. Dogs and walking boots are welcome, and there are plenty of places to get those boots muddy nearby. RSPB Leighton Moss is within walking distance, or head for the coast at Morecambe Bay, part of the beautiful Arnside and Silverdale AONB.”
The Guardian says guests can expect to pay from £144 for a double room with breakfast per night.
The pub describes itself as “a traditional country pub with rooms” on its website.
It added: “The New Inn at Yealand has undergone a major refurbishment, returning this 16th century inn back to its former glory.
“Situated in the heart of the historical village of Yealand Conyers in North Lancashire, the parish is nestled on the edge of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
“With great transport links and only 5 minutes from J35 of the M6, The New Inn, Yealand is a great central point to explore The Lakes District, Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland.”

One commented: “We booked a last minute overnight stay while attending a function locally, Only a short drive from the M6 and in a beautiful countryside setting, The New in is faultless, from the welcome and being shown to our room, to breakfast and departure.

“The room was outstanding, warm and cosy, lovely big bed, DAB radio, good sized TV, seating and a fridge. The bathroom had a heated towel rail, fluffy towels and lovely hot shower. I would recommend the full English breakfast and look forward to visiting again.”
This person shared their experience: “Beautiful place lovely atmosphere food was amazing fantastic quality and cooked with attention to detail one of the best meals we’ve had in a pub the lamb pie was amazing as was the beef suet pudding my son is a foodie and loved it sticky toffee pudding was delicious we took our dog and we were made very welcome visited on Wednesday 24 Sept place was really busy can’t wait to return when we’re back on holiday thank you for a fantastic meal”.
