Woman arrested after man dies in Kirkham van crash

A man has died in hospital following a crash in Kirkham.

Police were called to the junction of Dowbridge and Carr Lane shortly after 11pm on Saturday night (October 11).

It was reported to them that a man had been involved in a crash with a white Peugeot Bipper van.

The man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 45-year-old woman from Stockport has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst impaired through drink and drugs.

She is currently in custody.

Sgt Thomas Cooper-Malley, a senior investigating officer in Lancashire Police's roads policing unit, said: "This collision has sadly resulted in the loss of a man's life, and my deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Specially trained officers are providing them with support.

"Our priority now is to determine exactly what happened. We ask the public to please allow us to carry out our investigation without speculation, particularly on social media, which can be harmful and misleading.

"While an arrest has been made, I want to stress that our enquiries are very much still ongoing.

"If you witnesses the incident or have any footage, whether from a dashcam, mobile phone, or CCTV, please get in touch as soon as possible."
