A family, that spreads joy to people in Blackburn with its decorations, has unveiled this year’s display.
Kenneth and May Holliday have been decorating their home, on 46 Lamlash Road, for Halloween since the pandemic – and this year’s display is set to be “bigger and better than ever”.
May said they have spent hundreds on decorations over the years, with new ones added to the collection every October.
Horror fanatics will be excited to see the return of classic character decorations, Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers.
An inmate in an electric chair and the killer clown from Stephen King’s character, IT, are also set to make an appearance.
New decorations include a creepy guillotine.
May, 36, has been decorating since October 3 and says the full display is still not complete.
She said: “We have been decorating the house since Covid-19 when we were in lockdown. We get bigger and better every year.
“I haven’t put all of the decorations out this year yet. We must have spent hundreds of pounds on decorations over the years.”
May says she chooses to create the displays to “put a smile on people’s faces”. This year, May will be accepting charitable donations, which will be donated to Preston hospital children's ward. There will be a charity bucket in the garden, monitored by a CCTV camera.
She said: “It’s important to my children. They have autism and they absolutely love Halloween so I decorate for them. I also like to see smiles on everyone’s faces.
“I enjoy it. People come and ask me about the decoration on the street.
“This year I have done it for charity, Preston Children’s Hospital, for kids who are very poorly.”
An event will also be held at the house on October 31, from 4pm until 9pm. There will be a raffle with electronic devices up for grabs, a tombola, food and drink, a ‘live show’ and a DJ.
Sweets and chocolate will be available for children.
May said: “It’s important to see people having fun and smiling, especially when the world is getting really bad at the moment, with hate crimes and other issues, I just want to put some smiles and peace into the world.
“We try to get better every year. Hope to see you on Halloween night. We love seeing people come from out of town, coming to see our garden.”
