Blackburn with Darwen crime rate increases in August

Data from police.uk shows 1,783 crimes were recorded in the borough in August - an increase of 0.90 per cent from July's figure of 1,767.

Anti-social behaviour topped the list for the first time in more than six months, replacing violence and sexual offences as the most-committed crime.

Using the data, it is possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and to determine how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, there were eight increases, five decreases, and one stayed the same.

The crimes changed as follows:

• Violence and sexual offences - 593 (July) - 562 (August) - down 5.22 per cent
• Anti-social behaviour – 555 (July) - 565 (August) - up 1.80 per cent
• Shoplifting – 85 (July) - 118 (August) - up 38.82 per cent
• Criminal damage and arson - 119 (July) - 106 (August) - down 10.92 per cent
• Vehicle crime – 92 (July) - 92 (August) - no change
• Other theft – 79 (July) - 93 (August) - up 17.72 per cent
• Public order – 95 (July) - 77 (August) - down 18.94 per cent
• Burglary - 37 (July) - 42 (August) - up 13.51 per cent
• Other crime - 35 (July) - 44 (August) - up 25.71 per cent
• Drugs – 35 (July) - 26 (August) - down 25.71 per cent
• Possession of weapons - 14 (July) - 19 (August) - up 35.71 per cent
• Robbery – 15 (July) - 21 (August) - up 40 per cent
• Theft from person – 8 (July) - 7 (August) - down 12.5 per cent
• Bicycle theft - 5 (July) - 11 (August) - up 120 per cent

Only one other East Lancashire recorded an increased crime rate in August, which was Burnley going up by 2.8 per cent from 1,321 to 1,358.

Rossendale saw the biggest drop, going down by more than eight per cent from 635 to 584, while Hyndburn dropped by 5.9 per cent from 1,101 to 1,036.

In the Ribble Valley, there was a drop of 6.2 per cent from 322 to 302, and finally in Pendle the drop was by five per cent from 942 to 894.
