The reason hundreds of people gathered in fields around Huncoat in October 1988 was to witness the demolition of the cooling towers at the power station.

The coal-fired power station had opened in 1952 but had been closed by the Central Electricity Generating Board in 1994.

The power station’s main building would be demolished in 1990.
