Watford have sacked head coach Paulo Pezzolano and confirmed the return of Javi Gracia.
Pezzolano was under pressure after a poor start to the season, which included a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at the start of September.
Victories over Hull City and Oxford United at home sandwiched between a comeback 2-2 draw at Portsmouth looked to have bought the Spaniard more time.
Instead, Watford have decided to pull the trigger after only nine matches. It is yet another false dawn for the Championship club that has become synonymous with hiring and firing.
Gracia now returns to Vicarage Road. He held the post for 18 months from January 2018, leading them to their highest-ever Premier League finish of 11th and to their first FA Cup final in 35 years.

An official statement read: "Watford FC are delighted to confirm the return of Javi Gracia as head coach after deciding to part ways with Paulo Pezzolano and his backroom staff, whom we thank sincerely for their efforts and commitment during their time in charge. We wish them every success in the future.
"In appointing Javi, the club are confident that he will bring the qualities we believe are vital for this young squad: consistency in team selection, harmony within the dressing room and a strong connection with our supporters. His vision and approach align closely with our objectives."
Chairman Scott Duxbury added: “We are very pleased to welcome back Javi. His passion, leadership and clear strategy will help us build stability, unity and momentum.
“We are sure there are many supporters who wished Javi had never departed in 2019. With this young and exciting squad we are convinced his experience and qualities are exactly what we need now.”
Gracia's first game back in the hot seat is on Saturday as Watford head to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United.
