A children’s home in Chipping will now be able to have more staff on site following approval from Ribble Valley Borough Council.

Theracare Homes Ltd, which runs Holme Farm Cottage on the Leagram Estate, has been granted permission to allow up to four staff members to be present at any one time.

The property already operates as a children’s home for up to three young people following consent granted in 2016, but that decision limited staffing to two.

The company says the change does not alter the use of the home, which will continue to offer care for children aged between eight and 17.

The extra staff will provide more support, with carers rotating every two days to make sure there is always adult supervision.

Holme Farm Cottage is a detached house within a group of estate buildings. Inside, it has bedrooms for the children, a communal kitchen, a living room and dining room, as well as bathrooms and a ground-floor toilet.

One room is set aside for staff use, but the increase in staffing does not require any building work or alterations.

Theracare says its aim is to provide a nurturing and safe environment, helping young people develop life skills, gain confidence and prepare for adulthood.

Staff also work with schools to make sure each child receives an education suited to their needs.

In a statement, the organisation said the approval is “entirely appropriate for its setting” and will allow it to continue delivering “essential and highly praised” care.
