A community-run pub has announced that a new chef with an impressive resume will take over later this month.
Zak Allen will take over from Jamie Evans, who is leaving for the Spinners Arms in Darwen, after a long period running the kitchen, which became famed for their cheese and onion pie.
Having begun his career at The Three Fishes, part of Nigel Haworth’s Ribble Valley Inns, Zak has also worked in the French Alps and more recently at Albert’s in Didsbury, Manchester.
He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be taking the reins at The Dog Inn, an incredible opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into!
“The Three Fishes was a great start to my career, setting the foundations for my love of cooking quality, locally sourced seasonal food. Since then, I've worked in kitchens with varying styles and dynamics, which has broadened my experience and knowledge.
“My time in the French Alps was amazing, teaching me to adapt and appreciate the beauty of serving great, hearty food, cooked with French passion.
“As the Head Chef at Albert’s in Didsbury, I honed my skills in modern British cuisine, serving 'fine dining' to casual Bistro style food.”
Enterprise Inns closed the pub in November 2014, leaving the village without its last remaining local.

Although it was first sold to a contractor, residents asked if they could purchase it instead—and he agreed, giving them just two months to raise the funds.
With no other meeting place in the village, the people of Belthorn rallied together to secure the pub under community ownership.
After fundraising efforts and a successful share offer, the village bought the pub in 2015, followed by a period of refurbishment.
The Dog Inn is open Wednesday to Saturday between noon and 8pm, and Sundays between noon and 6.30pm.
