A Darwen pie shop renowned for baking some of the best pies in Lancashire is hoping to be named the region’s best bakery.

There are 10 bakeries currently battling it out for your votes in the Lancashire Telegraph Best Bakery competition. On the list this year is The Pie Hole, in Duckworth Street.

The quaint little shop is located on the busiest road in town and is famous for serving up a range of delicious treats, including their famous pies.

On the menu, you will find everything from The Cheesy Hombre and Garlic Sausage Mac and Cheese, to the Wagyu Cheeseburger, Lamb Keema and Boozy Hoof.

If you were looking for something a tad hotter, then there is always The Spicy Porke and Bengal Tiger.

Alistair Reay and Esther Holden entered the pie industry to feed golfers at Darwen Golf Club, where they still run the catering team.

It is the second time in two years that the shop has made it onto the top 10 bakery list.

The team have also been honoured at the British Pie Awards, where they won two golds and a silver and the Small Business Awards.

Alistair said: “It is a big team effort to produce the number of products we produce daily.”

Alistair added: “Most of the comments we get are that we are too cheap because of the quality, and they are a very good price point.

“We are in Darwen, and we know our market and we know what they will pay, and we try to help our customers because everyone is feeling the pinch.”

Each finalist is being profiled. Readers will be able to vote for the ‘Best Bakery 2025’ by picking up copies of the Lancashire Telegraph until Saturday, September 13, with the winner announced the week commencing September 22.
