A Nelson man has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 after dumping household waste in Nelson.
Mihai Varga, of Lee Road, was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for breaching Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, after dumping recycling and household waste in the Hartley Drive area of the town.
Having not originally paid the £440 fine, the case was referred to Preston Magistrates' Court, where he was found guilty, despite not attending.
He was fined £440 for the fly-tipping and ordered to pay £498 in costs, plus a £176 victim surcharge, totalling £1,114.
A Pendle Council spokesperson said: “Mihai Varga, of Lee Road, was issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for breaching Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 for dumping waste in the Hartley Drive area of Nelson.
“He didn’t pay the £440 fine, and the case was referred to court, where Varga was found guilty in his absence.
“He was fined £440 and ordered to pay £498 costs and a £176 victim surcharge – totalling £1,114.”
