Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Balazs Toth - 7
Wasn't overly worked but made a good save in the first half from Cochrane. Commanded his area well and should've had his first clean sheet of the campaign. Couldn't do anything about the penalty, which was tucked into the corner, or the winning goal.
Ryan Alebiosu - 8
Lively once again from right-back. Had a burst in the first half which almost saw him score - though he was penalised after he'd shot. Took a nasty whack and had to be stretchered off, fingers crossed he's ok.
Dom Hyam - 8
Brilliant at the heart of Rovers' defence with some key defensive headers and interceptions. Showed his value to the team once again despite the late turnaround.
Sean McLoughlin - 8
Equally as strong alongside Hyam. Looks to be a real steady, solid performer. Another good display after last week.
Yuri Ribeiro - 8
Strong defensive performance, keeping Gray and Osayi-Samuel quiet until the final minutes.
Sidnei Tavares - 6
Solid on debut without being sparkling. Covered some good ground but then was judged to have brought down Laird in the box. Looked like a penalty on first viewing.
Sondre Tronstad - 7
Grew into the game in the second half with Rovers seeing more of the ball. Disciplined as ever in the centre of midfield.
Augustus Kargbo - 7
Always posed a threat, particularly after Rovers had taken the lead. End product was inconsistent but he was a useful outlet.
Todd Cantwell - 8 (Star man)
Wearing the captain's armband, he was nearly the match winner. It wasn't just his quality off the ball, or his fantastic goal that swung it. His work rate off the ball was fantastic, leading the press and helping his team win the ball back.
Ryan Hedges - 7
Played off the left-hand side to provide more defensive protection and did that diligently. Had a lovely run in the second half, which almost led to a second goal.
Yuki Ohashi - 8
Pressed and harassed Birmingham, winning the ball back a lot. One of those performances that could go under the radar but he was vital to his team.
Substitutes:
Lewis Miller (71') - 6
Played in a variety of roles across the defence after coming on. Long throw continues to be a useful weapon.
Scott Wharton (82') - 6
On for the final 15 minutes in a bid to see the game out. Could've perhaps prevented Dykes getting across him for the winner.
Makhtar Gueye (87') - N/A
Almost scored at the death after meeting Miller's long thrown in but was denied
Axel Henriksson (87') - N/A
Dion De Neve (87') - N/A
Unused substitutes: Michalski, Pickering, Montgomery, Tyjon.
