Mugshots of four jailed for Blackburn attack released

Muhammed Nasreen, 18, Mohammed Jaber, 24, and Mohammed Ali, 21, were all jailed for 20 months for the violent assault on a couple outside Blackburn train station on June 18 last year.

Hassan Miah, 20, was also sentenced to 16 months in a young offenders' institute.

Mohammed Ali (Image: Lancashire Police) Ali, of Leamington Road, Blackburn, is said to have been one of the men wearing a balaclava, and Judge Altham said he took a "running kick" at victim John Jordan Brook's head before going on to punch him and stamp on him while he was on the floor.

Jaber, of Granville Road, Blackburn, also wore a balaclava and was said to have blamed the victims in a pre-sentence report.

Muhammed Nasreen, also of Leamington Road, was said to have initially goaded Mr Brook by saying "go on" and is said to have tried to stamp on his head.

Mohammed Jaber (Image: Lancashire Police) Miah, of Dukes Brow, Blackburn, twice committed battery while on bail for these offences and also breached a restraining order.

Judge Robert Altham said Miah presented "some risk to the public."

Mr Brook and his former partner, Daniel Timothy, suffered severe head and face injuries in the attack, as Mr Brook's mother watched on in horror.

The three had been returning from a night out in Manchester and got off the same train as the group of seven, who made homophobic comments towards the men, and made personal remarks about Mr Brook's mother.

Outside the station, close to the taxi rank, Mr Brook finally had enough and walked towards the men, who then began violently attacking him and Mr Timothy, punching and kicking them, with three of the men donning balaclavas for the attack.

Mr Brook was kicked several times while he was on the floor, and three of the men were seen on CCTV stamping on him while he was on the ground.

Footage also captured the men walking away from the scene, and two of them were seen to shake hands in a congratulatory manner, while another mimicked one of the kicks that was inflicted on their victims.

Seven men appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court last month in connection with the offence.

Hassan Miah (Image: Lancashire Police) The four who were jailed were also joined by Mohammed Nasreen, 18, of Leamington Road, who was given a two-year community order; Ibrahim Mahmood, 18, of Woodfold Place, Blackburn, who received the same sentence; and Husnain Mohammed, 19, of Burlington Street, Blackburn, who got 10 months suspended for 20 months in a young offenders' institute.

Judge Altham told the group what they did was "cowardly and offensive behaviour," adding Mr Brook was "provoked into a reaction" before being set upon.

He said: "This attack was particularly cowardly and I hope you are all ashamed of the way you behaved."
