The Red Arrows delight walkers with flypast over Rivington

On Sunday (August 10), residents of Lancashire and Greater Manchester were treated to a flypast as the iconic Red Arrows made their way back to base at RAF Waddington after wowing crowds at Blackpool Air Show.

The path the Red Arrows took - above towns including Ormskirk and Chorley - gave people the opportunity to see the amazing aircraft without visiting the show on the Lancashire coast.

The Red Arrows, famous for their acrobatics and performative flying, are highly anticipated by the public up and down the country, thrilling spectators with their precise formations and signature red, white, and blue smoke trails. 

Pictures began to circulate on social media, as residents grabbed their phones and cameras to document the spectacle.

He said: “I had planned to be at the air show in Blackpool but had to cut my trip short.

“I caught them at 4.50pm while I was walking in Rivington, a pleasant surprise to see them for sure.”

(Image: Gary Severn) (Image: Gary Severn) The Red Arrows are next scheduled to display at Falmouth Week on Saturday. They are also slated for four appearances at Eastbourne International Airshow between August 14 and 17.

The Red Arrows, officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, are the UK Royal Air Force's (RAF) aerobatic display team, having formed in 1964.
