A road in Darwen is to be closed until the end of the week due to a water leak.

Lower Eccleshill Road is closed in both directions due to water main work from Hollins Grove Street to Chanters Way.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: "There will be a temporary road closure in place today (August 6) on Lower Eccleshill Road in Darwen while engineers from United Utilities repair a leak.

"We anticipate the work to be complete and the road reopened by Friday, August 8.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

As a result, the closure scheduled for Roman Road, where United Utilities is set to fix an issue in the carriageway on August 8, will be rescheduled.

A spokesperson for Blackburn with Darwen Roads said: “Due to a further water burst, the closure on Lower Eccleshill Road will be in place for longer than expected, with United Utilities on site.

“In response to this, the closure scheduled for Roman Road on August 8 is being rescheduled, and will not be taking place this weekend.”
