Several roads across Blackburn will be closed this weekend as the Festival of Making returns.

Ten roads will be closed to facilitate the festivities over the weekend, as the town transforms into a walking art gallery.

Now in its ninth year, the festival, supported by Blackburn with Darwen Council, takes over Blackburn town centre with mainly free large-scale artworks, performances and exhibitions.

The closures will come into force at 11pm on Friday, July 4, and will continue until the event concludes on Sunday, July 6.

These roads will be closed for the duration:

- Exchange Street

- Museum Street

- King William Street

- Tackett Street

- Town Hall Street

- New Market Street

- Lord Street

- Lord Street West

- Corporation Street

- Northgate will also be closed, but only from its junction with New Market Street to its junction with Lord Street West.

Visitors have been asked to follow traffic management directions throughout the event, and diversion signs will remain in place to guide vehicles in and out of the town centre.

This year's festival will feature three ground-breaking artists, and the lead commissioning programme, Art in Manufacturing, will feature Matter at Hand, Morag Myerscough and Liaqat Rasul.

Each artist will undertake a residency at a leading manufacturer based in Blackburn with Darwen.

Art in Manufacturing offers artists rare access to factory floors, heritage materials, cutting-edge technology and expert craftsmanship to create works that are bold and deeply rooted in the local area.

There will also be a special guest talk by George Clarke, an architect and TV presenter, dozens of free workshops, installations and live performances.

Artisan food producers’ market, curated by Taste Lancashire, will also be present with a range of food stalls as well as a bustling makers market.
