A documentary exposing the alleged 'censorship' of the ongoing bombing of Gaza will get its first public showing in Blackburn this week.
'Censoring Palestine' will air from 7pm this Thursday, June 26, at Blackburn Central Library.
The event is being organised by the Blackburn and District Trades Union Council as the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza hit more than 56,000 since October 7, 2023.
The showing will be followed by a short report from Granville Williams, editor of Media North1.
Among the other keynote speakers will be Neelam Hussain from Blackburn for Palestine, who has been among those holding peaceful protests weekly in the town for nearly a year.
Trade Union Council Vice President, John Murphy said: “Like so many other people, we were horrified by the relentless killing of Palestinian workers, often targeted because of their work; 190 journalists, 220 teachers, 320 aid workers and more than 1,500 health care workers.
“With more than 50,000 civilians killed and another million starved, homeless and brutalised, where are the headlines, where is the outrage in the British media?
"This documentary and public meeting will help shine a light on the shameful scandal of media silence.”
President of the Blackburn TUC, Bob Welham, said: “In the same week that the Centre for Media Monitoring detailed the consistent misrepresentation and under-reporting by the BBC, the corporation censored its own documentary Medics Under Fire concerning the wanton destruction of Gaza’s health service.
“People need to be told the truth about what’s happening to the Palestinians, and we all need to speak out against our government’s involvement in this shameful crime against humanity.”
Everyone is welcome to the event.
