A mystery artist has been hailed as the ‘Lancashire Banksy’ after some creative graffiti appeared under a bridge near Hapton.
Graffiti have appeared under a bridge on the Leeds Liverpool canal, between Rosegrove and Hapton, depicting Minions, lovable characters from children’s Despicable Me franchise.
The fictional, all-male, yellow creatures that are known for their comedic behavior and unintelligible language.
Several pillars, which are holding up a bridge near a stretch of the canal, have been painted to depict the yellow and overall-wearing characters which appear to be holding up the bridge.
Pictures of the Minions have since gone viral with one post, created by Nicola Leverton, being shared more than 130 times and like by 1,900 people.
The paintings are being enjoyed by adults and children alike with one woman likening the artist to mystery street artist, Banksy.
She said: “So who is the Lancashire Banksy? Hats off to the absolute legend who painted these.
“My three-year-old, and me, love them.”
Another person said: “Love this - we walk past here quite often. Should be done under all motorway bridges.”
One mum said: “It’s brilliant, my little girl hates this bit of the canal. Now, she loves this bit and says hi to each one! Thank you to the artist it’s fantastic!”
Another said: “I don't know the area but have full respect for the skill and artistry shown, bringing an otherwise dull area to life.”
“Someone needs to do that to my house, I love minions. I am in my 30s and like a big kid,” another person commented.
The person(s) behind the Minions paintings is currently unknown.
Burnley Council and the Canal and River Trust has been approached for more details and information.
