A Blackburn man got the shock of his life after being told he had just won a McLaren supercar.
Passers by and neighbours in St Silas Road spotted the McLaren 570 GT, worth £75,000, parked up outside a house.
Word soon got round that a resident had won the car in a competition.
Hameed Ahmadzai, 23, was met by Christian Williams, who knocked on his door to deliver the good news.
He was told: “You have just won a McLaren.”
A shocked Hameed was taken to the roadside and handed the keys to the car, which can go from 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 204mph.
Hameed, who speaks Pashto, an Eastern Iranian language, said he was delighted to have won the car and could not believe his luck.
Christian told Hameed: “Massive congratulations.
“We thought we would come up to Blackburn to surprise you. Safe to say, rather surprised?”
He was asked whether he wanted to take the car or take the cash equivalent prize.
Despite seeing the superpowered, luxurious motor in front of him, Hameed said: “I take the cash.”
Christian added: “It was an incredible moment to hand over a prize like this to someone who entered for just 20p – that’s mind-blowing value for a £75,000 supercar!
“Hameed was totally shocked, and who can blame him? He’s a hard-working young guy and was genuinely overwhelmed.
“He’s planning on taking the cash alternative, which will be absolutely life-changing for him.”
BOTB hands over the keys to a car each week, as well as other cash prizes.
Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, it has given away £64 million worth of vehicles.
