Holidays fun returns in Blackburn with Darwen thanks to culture club

For the third straight year Culturapedia will be bringing a host of fun arts and culture events to the neighbouring towns' markets.

Council chiefs say it is part of their commitment to providing Blackburn and Darwen with an accessible calendar of cultural experiences.

One of Culturapedia's most recent works was the colourful display - 'Spring into Reading' - created to brighten up Blackburn Central Library.

Last summer the collective brought interactive dance sessions, puppet shows and live theatre to the markets.

Cllr Quesir Mahmood, the borough's deputy leader and growth boss, said: "We are delighted to share that Blackburn with Darwen Council has successfully bid for and received funding from Arts Council England to support this project for the third consecutive year.

"This funding will ensure the continuation of high-quality arts and culture activities that will benefit both residents and visitors to the area until the end of February 2026."

Co-founders of Blackburn-based Culturapedia Rob Howell and Sue Robinson will be joined by Lyndsey Wilson, Stephie Jessop, Lewis Gallagher and Alfred the dog for the project.

The outfit is a recognised Arts Council England national portfolio organisation with an approach 'centred around co-creation, collaboration, and inclusivity',

Rob said: "The family-friendly activities are held at both Blackburn and Darwen Markets, two iconic locations at the heart of our town’s social and cultural life.

"The programme aims to encourage families to enjoy the rich cultural experiences available locally, while also showcasing the talent of local artists and performers.

"These activities will play an important role in energising the town centres, providing an opportunity for families to connect, learn, and have fun together in their local communities."
