Unless you are enjoying corporate hospitality, it’s unlikely that you would see anyone in a suit at a football match these days.
This great photo shows part of the crowd at an Accrington Stanley match from the late 1940s. This was taken at the club’s Peel Park ground where virtually every member of the crowd is wearing a collar and tie and obligatory flat cap.
There don’t appear to be many single female fans on this shot of the terraces.
It’s interesting to see the advertising hoardings behind the crowd, including one for Holland’s Pies who many years later would become kit sponsors for Stanley in the 1990s.
