An East Lancashire choir, which celebrated their 100th year in 2024, brought down the house during their British Got Talent performance.

Rossendale Men’s Choir performed on Saturday night, April 12, and stunned both the judges and the audience with their rendition of Oasis’s Don’t Look Back in Anger.

The choir practices in Rawtenstall and was founded 100 years ago by Fred Tomlinson.

During their audition at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, judge Amanda Holden questioned the group and asked who the “unruly bunch” was walking onto the stage.

Announcing that they were celebrating their 100th year, the musical director, Matthew Thomas, introduced the group and gave a special shout-out to their oldest member, Owen Stanton.

Amanda invited Owen to the front to discuss the choir, to which he replied, stating that he didn’t think he would be able to get back up the stage.

She also asked if they all went for a beer after practice.

Owen said: “Some people go for a medicinal drink to help with their vocals.”

After their performance, which showcased impeccable harmonies and a fun twist on the original song, the choir were met with four yeses from the judges.

Judge Alesha Dixon said: “You’re just a great group of guys getting together and doing something you absolutely love, and that’s made us all feel great today, so thank you for coming on the show.”

In addition, judge Bruno Tonioli said their performance was wonderful for the silver foxes and proved there is still plenty of life in the older generation.

Youtuber KSI, who joined the panel for this year's show, said you couldn’t find anything like them on social media and he felt they needed to see more of it.

Amanda Holden said: “If we put you through to the next round, I am coming to the pub with you on Monday.”

The choir will next perform in the live shows, which are set to launch on April 26 and run through until May 31.
