A former Accrington schoolgirl has been honoured for her work in AI and higher education.
Tamsin Deasey Weinstein grew up in Accrington and attended Accrington Moorhead High School, before studying at Blackburn College and UCLan.
After beginning her career in marketing and strategy in Manchester, Tamsin returned to the Ribble Valley in 2013 and worked at Accrington and Rossendale College.
In 2019, she moved to the Cayman Islands to work at the University College of the Cayman Islands, with her career in AI-driven education and national workforce development.
Now, Tamsin has been selected for the inaugural Perplexity AI Business Fellowship.
As the only participant from the Cayman Islands, she joins an elite group gaining mentorship from some of the world’s most influential tech pioneers, including NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang and Perplexity AI’s Co-founder Aravind Srinivas.
This follows her successful completion of an advanced AI leadership programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Additionally, Tamsin has been awarded Principal Fellowship of Higher Education by Advance HE.
She said: "I’m incredibly proud of my roots in Accrington. My journey from a small town in Lancashire to leading AI education on a global stage shows that innovation can come from anywhere.
"I hope my story inspires others from Accrington and beyond to think big and pursue opportunities that can change the world."
President and CEO of the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) Dr. Robert Robertson added, “Tamsin’s recognition on both global and national levels is a testament to her unwavering dedication to advancing AI and education.
"Her leadership continues to position UCCI at the forefront of innovation, and we are excited to see her impact grow even further."
