Jo's Vintage Coffee Bar opens in Accrington Arndale

Opening in the Accrington Arndale shopping centre, Jo’s Vintage Coffee Bar is bringing a taste of the historic tea rooms, that once sat on the same site.

Run by Joanne Aspden, who left her job at Costa to start the business, and her family the shop wants to sell the finest East Lancastrian ingredients but at a fraction of the price of other stores.

“It is nice people coming in and seeing the old grandfather clock and people have donated some vintage things that were grandmas.

“People used to come here with grandma when it was a tearoom, and they are going to come back as customers which is nice.

“It is the cheapest around but also the best quality and the best ingredients sourced locally from Blackburn exchange coffee.

“Everything is made locally and brought straight here so it is lovely and fresh.”

The menu focuses mainly on hot drinks and cakes and snacks which have been produced by a family bakery in Whalley.

The cakes on offer at Jo’s Vintage Coffee Bar (Image: NQ) And the sky is the limit for Joanne, who intends on bringing in a range of cold drinks in the summer as well as afternoon tea expected to arrive in March.

Shahed Mahmood and Stacey Walsh were both at the grand opening and were impressed with the quality of the food and drink as well as the interiors.

Shahed Mahmood and Stacey Walsh enjoyed their time at Jo’s Vintage Coffee Bar (Image: NQ) Unlike other coffee shops, it is filled with vintage and pre-loved décor including a grandfather clock and teapots, which Joanne says was inspired by the American TV series Friends.

Stacey said: “It’s great to support local businesses. It is friendly and warm, and it has a nice community spirit and what I like is that is accessible to everyone.

“It is just what the town needs and another fantastic new business for Accrington.”

But for Shahed it was the coffee that was the main selling point which he said was “out of this world”.

He said: “It is an excellent place for coffee which is out of this world. It is a nice quiet place and it is a great spot”.
