A Blackburn company has won a national award for its recycling technology.
B&M Longworth was awarded the Make UK Energy & Sustainability Award at a ceremony in London.
The event was organised by Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation, which represents more than 20,000 manufacturing businesses.
The award, sponsored by Inspired, was given to the company for its efforts to develop technologies that allow composite materials to be recycled.
B&M Longworth beat other regional winners from across the UK to win the national award.
The demand for composites in sectors such as aerospace and energy is expected to 'grow substantially', and the technologies that have been developed will enable such materials to go through multiple life cycles rather than being used just once.
This process will also enable greater use of the materials within the UK, as opposed to being imported, and reduce the impact on the environment.
Dawn Huntrod, region director for Make UK in the North, said: "These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing.
"The sector remains at the heart of creating wealth in the North West and as we grow our economy there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent."
