Police attended an address after being tipped off that the occupier had a number of XL Bully dogs and was breeding them.
Blackburn magistrates heard they were also told Sean Duffy was growing cannabis in his cellar.
Duffy, 38, of Thirlmere Close, Huncoat, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, possession of an offensive weapon, a knuckle duster, abstracting electricity without authority and possession of a fighting dog.
He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
He was also fined £200 with a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Bryony Cook, prosecuting, said when officers entered the property there was a strong smell of cannabis and they found five plants growing in the basement.
Duffy said he was growing the drug for his own use and also admitted bypassing the electricity meter himself.
Miss Cook said a trained officer had confirmed the dog was an XL Bully and it had since been put to sleep after Duffy signed a disclaimer.

Neil Howard, defending, said the court would be alarmed by the electricity extraction which was extremely dangerous for the defendant and his neighbours.
He said Duffy had started growing cannabis for his own personal use in relation to diagnosed mental health problems.
“The knuckle duster was never brandished,” said Mr Howard.
“He had forgotten about it and didn’t know where it was until the police found it.”
