Great Harwood Rovers have launched a free men's weight loss programme branded 'Men v Fat'.

The initiative, backed by Fort Vale funding, begins on January 29 and aims to encourage fitness and sports participation.

The 12-week programme is designed for men who want to engage in football—either playing or volunteering—but feel their fitness levels are inadequate.

It targets men with a BMI of 27.5 or higher who want to improve their health.

The initiative offers advice and support in a social group setting.

Participants will benefit from guidance provided by the X-PERT Weight & Wellbeing Programme, which includes 90-minute weekly sessions focusing on food-related education and well-being every Wednesday from 6.15pm.

The programme rewards participants for not just their on-field performance but also for their weight loss progress, which contributes towards team goals.

Nigel Sutton, chair of Great Harwood Rovers, said: "This is a really great initiative, and so inclusive for people who think they're not fit enough for football.

"We're really grateful to Fort Vale for providing the funds to enable us to make it free to participate, this could be life-changing for the people who take part.

"We're a really welcoming club, and look forward to seeing this group enjoying the classes and sessions."

There are 20 free places available on the programme.

Interested individuals can secure their place by messaging ghrfcnews@outlook.com.

Great Harwood Rovers have been promoting sports participation and fitness in their community since 1975.
