Drivers are being asked to avoid a busy main route through East Lancashire this morning due to ice on the road.
Lancashire Police have closed the A56 between Rising Bridge and Huncoat due to "extensive ice."
Heavy rain yesterday (January 1) caused by a big drop in temperature overnight has caused large patches of ice to form across the region.
A Met Office weather warning for ice was issued yesterday from 4pm lasting until 10am today (January 2).
They said: "As skies clear in its wake, and with standing water following earlier rain in places, ice is likely to form quite quickly on untreated surfaces, leading to difficult travel conditions."
A police spokesperson added: "We have closed the A56 from Rising Bridge to Huncoat due to extensive ice. Please avoid the area."
