Cafe and child's play plan for old Colne nightclub site

The application, if successful, would see the old Zebras nightclub in Keighley Road, Colne, brought back into use.

The building has stood vacant for almost a decade, and applicant Matthew Oliver’s plans would see it become Crumb and Play cafe and children’s role play village.

Documents submitted as part of the application to Pendle Council state the interior of the premises would undergo a full refurbishment, with a food counter installed along with dining space.

How the building currently looks (Image: Google) A new wall would be installed on the first floor to create a kitchen area, with the remainder of the floor used as a space for baby and toddler classes and parents’ groups.

Externally, new signage would be put up on the front of the building and in the windows.

Currently, the site, which sits on a traffic light-controlled crossroads opposite the Commercial Hotel pub, has no off-road parking spaces, with none proposed in the plans.

Nearby there is Cross Skelton Street free public car park, plus some short-stay spaces off Market Street.

How the front of the building would look if plans are approved (Image: Pendle Council) The café would provide three full-time jobs and one part-time role, and be in operation for food and children’s play from 9am to 5pm every day, with evening classes from 5pm to 10pm Monday to Saturday.

Addressing parking and highway concerns, the plans state: “The children who are attending will be accompanied by their parents/guardian at all times.

“We are aware that there is no parking at the property and this could create some highway concerns, but we believe that the parking in the area offers a safe, accessible, and efficient parking solution.”

It also provided a list of more than 10 car parks within a 10-minute walk from the site where visitors could park.
