Streets have become flooded across East Lancashire, as rivers burst their banks as Storm Bert causes chaos.
People have been sharing their pictures and videos of flooded roads and fields as the county is hit with heavy rain.
Rossendale, in particular, appears to be heavily affected by the flooding
Daniel Higson said the River Irwell has burst its banks. He shared a picture of a flooded football field at Acre Park in Bacup, as water gushes past the camera.
He said “the field has been taken by water”.
Others pictures show St James Square in Bacup submerged in water.
Georgia Mia posted a picture of a flooded Manchester Road, in Ramsbottom, near Park Farm Shop & Tearoom.
Rossendale councillor Scott Smith said it is “heartbreaking” to see towns in Rossendale flooded.
He said: “I've been through the Valley twice today and it's heartbreaking to see water flowing through our towns again. It's clear that the combination of very heavy rainfall and the snow melt from the moors has combined to overwhelm our drainage.
“It seems the River Irwell has been unable to cope while, for the moment at least, the River Spodden in Whitworth has held.
“I have spoken to the director of Highways at Lancashire County Council, who has ensured that teams are out across the county to mitigate the impact of this flooding and to keep people safe. They are in touch with other agencies including the Environment Agency and the Police.
“There are two numbers I want to share with you all. You can contact Floodline on 0345 988 1188. The Highways out of hours number is 0300 123 6780 - but please be aware that this redirects to Lancashire Police. If you are in danger, please call 999.
“Over the next few hours, days and weeks I will do everything I can to support residents and businesses affected by the flooding today - whether physically today through tomorrow or with advice and support.
“Please stay safe and do get in touch if I can be of any help at all.”
Several flood alerts have been issued across Lancashire today
A red warning, meaning flooding is expected, has been issued for rivers in Accrington and Oswaldtwistle, Bacup, Rawtenstall, Waterfoot and Blackburn.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Weather conditions are expected to improve this afternoon and no further flooding is expected.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and clearing debris from weed screens.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.”
