An East Lancashire hotel has been named among the best in Britain at a national awards ceremony.
The Coach and Horses, a Grade II listed coaching inn in Bolton-by-Bowland, scooped a prestigious César award at the event run by The Good Hotel Guide.
It won The Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice for 2025, having previously claimed the award in 2023.
The editor of the Good Hotel Guide said: “Away from the crowds but close to good walking in the Ribble Valley, this traditional coaching inn, refurbished in style, is both a friendly village local and foodie hotspot, with an onsite microbrewery and impressive and glamorous bedrooms.
“You get a real wow as the door opens to a split-level floor and ostentatious copper bath.
“A grand chandelier added that final flourish. Other rooms were equally impressive. In the flagstone-floored bar, with copper counter, leather armchairs, hunting prints and log burner, you can sample a pint of Goldie or Summer Haze made from the microbrewery.”
Despite being under new ownership since August, it has continued to flourish and maintain high standards which has led to success in recent years.
Joe Unsworth, manager at The Coach and Horses said: “We are very happy with it, and we are under new ownership, and it is great we are heading in the right direction.
“It helps and you get a bit more national coverage. Our return rate is strong, and we hope to get some new people in.
“We have really nice bedrooms, and it is not fussy, and it is just down to earth and where people can come and relax. We are very traditional, and we try to keep things in the same heel as that and bring delightful interiors as well.”
Chef Ian Moss’s casual fine dining and tasting menus were also praised and said to appeal to different tastes and budgets.
They were particularly impressed with the venison tartare, describing it as a “surprising delight” and a deconstructed banoffee pie was “deliciously gooey”.
Service was considered to be friendly, attentive and exceptional.
