A woman, who has been trained by pizza experts, is to open her own takeaway in Darwen.
Lara King, originally from Dublin and now living in Darwen, is set to open Killa Carbs above The Greenfield pub, on Lower Barn Street.
Killa Carbs will operate independently as a takeaway but Lara says there are also plans to sell pizza in the pub.
Lara has owned the business since 2021, selling at pop-up stalls.
Blackburn Rovers fans might recognise the business, as Lara sets up a stall at Ewood Park on match days. She will still be attending the match day events.
She said: “We started in 2021 and did a lot of pop-up and mobile events.
“We thought now is the time to get a premises. We have a hut down at Ewood Park but we have been dying to get into the takeaway side of things. We have never offered delivery before.”
Lara has spent countless hours honing her craft and has been trained by "pizza masters" across the world.
She will sell New York-style pizzas at the Darwen takeaway.
She recently went to New York to gain flavour inspiration. Lara also received training from Massimiliano Saieva, regarded as a renowned chef and expert in the art of "Roman-style" pizzas.
Lara said: “This pizzeria is going to offer New York-style pizzas which I don’t feel is offered a lot in Darwen. I want to use new ideas and great-quality ingredients.
“The pizza scene in New York is huge…I have just come back from New York where I received pizza training. It was good to get a lot of inspiration and ideas from there
“My pizzas are more high-end than ‘usual’ takeaway pizzas.
"A lot of love and work has gone into the dough, which is what I pride myself in.
"I have trained with a lot of pizza masters to hone the craft and learn as much as I can.”
The increased space will allow Lara to experiment with flavours. As well as traditional toppings, such as pepperoni, Lara aims to use flavours such as vodka sauce, ricotta, pecorino and homemade chili-infused honey.
She said: “I can be quite experimental with the flavours.
“They’re not topping you will find in a lot of areas, especially in my area. I want to be able to do specials and run different and more interesting toppings.”
Killa Carbs is set to have a soft launch mid-November and aims to fully open on December 1. It is open for collection or delivery.
