This early photo gives us an unusual view of a popular Ribble Valley village.
Visitors to Pendleton today are familiar with the stream running through the village which is walled off to prevent flooding.
But when this picture was taken, properties nearby were permanently at risk should water levels rise.
On the left of the photo by the footbridge which crosses Pendleton brook is the pub, the Swan with Two Necks, which is still at the heart of the village today.
It’s likely this picture was taken around the early 1900s. It’s interesting to see the group of children on the right. Were they on their way home from school or did they live in the large white house?
