A man has been charged with murdering another man who died following an attack in Lancashire.
Keith Thompson, from Morecambe, was assaulted near the Bay Medical Centre in Heysham at 4am on Saturday, September 28.
The 49-year-old was taken to hospital where he later died.
Leigh Smith, 39, of Binyon Court Lancaster was charged by the police following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Det Con Insp John McNamara added: “This is a devastating incident that has very sadly resulted in a man losing his life.
“We have launched a major investigation and we have a team of both detectives and uniformed officers and staff working to try and establish exactly what has happened."
He will appear before Lancaster Magistrates Court today, October 1.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information or CCTV to contact police.
Anyone with information are urged to contact the police on 101 quoting log 204 of September 28.
A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: “We launched a murder investigation after 49-year-old Keith Thompson was assaulted off Heysham Road, near to the Bay Medical Centre, in Heysham in the early hours of Saturday 28th September.
“Emergency services attended the scene and Mr Thompson was taken to hospital, but he sadly died. Our thoughts remain with his loved ones, and they continue to be supported by officers.
“Mr Thompson’s family have been told of the latest development.”
