Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has launched a business fire safety campaign.
Running until September 29, the campaign aims to educate small and medium-sized businesses on their fire safety responsibilities.
This initiative comes as businesses gear up for the busy Christmas period and navigate the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis.
From October 1, 2023, significant changes to fire safety legislation in England and Wales were enacted.
All businesses, irrespective of size or type, are now mandated to record a comprehensive fire risk assessment and fire safety arrangements.
The legislation also requires increased cooperation and coordination between responsible persons in multi-occupied buildings, and residents in buildings with two or more domestic premises must be informed about fire risks and safety measures.
The service will engage with businesses in the first week, providing advice on legal compliance to protect people living, working, and visiting these buildings.
As the campaign progresses, the service will highlight the benefits of business fire safety checks and provide a case study from a Blackpool business.
Special attention will be given to businesses in Lancashire's flood risk areas during the third week of the campaign.
The fire service will offer targeted advice on flood risk mitigation and business continuity planning, culminating in a podcast and the release of a new newsletter for business owners, Protection Matters.
Matthew Hamer, area manager and head of prevention and protection, said: "Our goal is to ensure that every business in Lancashire is not only aware of the potential risks but also equipped with the knowledge and tools to mitigate them.
"By providing comprehensive support and resources, we aim to foster a culture of safety that protects both businesses and the wider community."
The campaign is particularly important as businesses prepare for the busy Christmas period and navigate the challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis.
