An electrician once hailed as national success story by the Prince’s Trust has launched his latest company.
Carl Knowles and his wife Charlotte have become well known figures on the Blackburn and Darwen business scene thanks to their work with multi-award-winning electricals firm Elektec.
Having sold Elektec in 2023 and taken a career break, Carl is now back with his newest venture Enterprise Electrical, which will focus on domestic solar technology and EV charging.
He said: "I’m really happy and excited for this new business venture, a fresh start after selling Elektec.
“I can't wait to get back to helping the people of Lancashire with their electrical, EV charging and solar needs."
The name is inspired by Carl’s history as an alumnus of the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme, which he took part in in 2009.
After having been made redundant and the charity supported him to become self-employed and ultimately become one of the charities most storied successes.
Starting from a grant of just £1,500 and with mentoring from the Trust on marketing, finance and web design, Mr Knowles built up a business that became well established across the region.
Alongside him was wife Charlotte, who he had met in 2008, and who went on to become finance and business communications manager at the company.
During this time the couple also became well known for their charitable work in East Lancashire and beyond
This included supporting the Prince’s Trust’s Team programme, which helps young people aged 16 to 25 gain new skills, meet new people, and take a qualification.

All of this aims to help youngsters move forward into work, further education or training.
In July 2022 Carl and Charlotte were honoured for their work and long-standing connection with the Prince’s Trust by being invited to meet Prince, now King, Charles.
The event with the future King took place at Morecambe Community Fire Station on Friday, July 8 that year to mark 21 years of the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
Carl is now hoping that his latest business venture will prove to be just as impactful and prove to be a similar success.
