A Nelson man who smashed up a woman's car has been ordered to pay compensation to his victim.
According to court documents, Irfan Ahmed denied the charge of criminal damage, but was found guilty following a hearing at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 13.
The court heard how Ahmed, 45, damaged a woman's Dacia Sandero car in Styes Lane, a narrow, single-track country road running between the villages of Sowerby and Luddendenfoot in the borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire, on September 21, 2023.
Ahmed, of Hibson Road, Nelson, caused £500 worth of damage to the car, and was charged with criminal damage to property valued at under £5,000.
At a plea hearing in January he denied the offence, but following a trial magistrates found him guilty of the offence.
He was fined £230 and ordered to pay compensation of £700 to his victim.
He must also pay court costs of £400 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £92, for a total amount to be paid of £1,422.
The payments will be made in monthly instalments of £50, starting on July 11.
