Blackburn with Darwen Council's highways department has given an update on works at Goose House Lane and Hollins Grove Street that have not been authorised.

The council received reports today (Tuesday, June 11) that 'mua Gas' and 'S&R Construction' installed temporary lights in Darwen without permission.

As of around 1.30pm, the council was on-site and had instructed the works be removed as soon as possible, and should be removed by 4pm today.

The council received a request yesterday to complete this work, but refused it due to the temporary lights located further up at Goose House Lane/Chapels for the continuing work at Knowle Lane.

The next available dates were given between June 26 and July 5.

A spokesperson for Blackburn with Darwen Roads said: "We received reports today that mua Gas/S&R Construction has installed temporary lights on Goose House Lane and Hollins Grove Street.

"This work was not authorised by the Council. We are currently on-site and have instructed their removal ASAP.

"We received a request yesterday to complete this work, which was refused due to the temporary lights located further up at Goose House Lane/Chapels for the continuing work at Knowle Lane and other works planned to take place afterwards. We advised that the next available dates are between June 26 and July 5.

"It is disappointing to hear that works have gone ahead despite our refusal, so we have instructed their removal by 4pm today.

"Thank you to those who alerted us to this. This has enabled us to act swiftly to ensure that these works do not cause prolonged disruption to an already busy corridor that has seen multiple roadworks recently for the various developments in progress along Lower Eccleshill Road and Goose House Lane."
